Biological activities of complement.

چکیده

Complement is a system of serum proteins whose main function is to defend the body against infection. Although it has a reputation as a dauntingly complex system, this results chiefly from confusion in the nomenclature, which has varied considerably with time as more components were discovered, for example as ‘component C3’ became subdivided into several components one of which is still called ‘C3’. Moreover, three different nomenclatures have been used concurrently for the proteins of part of the system. These discrepancies have been resolved and a standard nomenclature is now in use.

Biological activities of antitrinitrophenyl and antidinitrophenyl mouse monoclonal antibodies.

The biological activities of mouse IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b, and IgE monoclonal were investigated. As has been shown with conventional antibodies, monoclonal IgG1 and IgE are the two classes capable of sensitizing the mouse for anaphylactic reactions, IgE sensitizes the rat, and IgG2a sensitizes the guinea pig. What has not been seen with conventional antibodies is that large amounts of monoclonal Ig...

Biological activities of naturally occurring antibodies reactive with Candida albicans mannan.

Sera from normal adult humans may contain high levels of antibody reactive with Candida albicans mannan. This study examined selected biological activities of such antibodies, focusing on sera that were collected from 34 donors and analyzed individually. The results showed that antimannan titers were normally distributed. Reactivity as determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with seroty...

Pharmaceutical Advances and Proteomics Researches

Proteomics enables understanding the composition, structure, function and interactions of the entire protein complement of a cell, a tissue, or an organism under exactly defined conditions. Some factors such as stress or drug effects will change the protein pattern and cause the present or absence of a protein or gradual variation in abundances. Changes in the proteome provide a snapshot of the...
